Welcome. On this page I will be sharing with you comments and thoughts about the curriculum and keeping you up to date on current projects and upcoming events as we move through the school year.
1 September 2010
Dear Parents,
I have been really encouraged by how hard everyone has worked this past week, and at how well everyone is getting along. Good portents for the remainder of the year.
At this point, all subject areas of the curriculum have kicked in and we are beginning to reach our cruising altitude and speed for the year. Please help your child stay on course by routinely checking his or her Student Planner to make sure assignments are being tracked and completed.
In Math we have been learning about the rules of divisibility, prime and composite numbers, and square numbers. Our first progress check will be on Tuesday, September 7. For this test students must be able to:
In Language Arts we are coming up with ideas and outlines for our Persuasive Essay. Outlines are due this Friday, September 3. In Science we have begun our Solar System Tour assignments. Each student has been given an object in our solar system to report back to the class about. The reports are due a week from this Friday, September 10. In Social Studies we are reading and answering questions about the “Peoples of the Southwest.” This Chapter Assignment is due next Tuesday, September 7. Remember that all major assignments can be viewed on the “Assignments” page of the class website: http://www.kenwoodschool.org/terwilliger/index.html. Many of the assignments can be viewed and printed out by going to the end of the Assignment Calendar.
A reminder to parents who wish to participate in field trips this year: you must have your fingerprinting and auto insurance information on file with the school. Please see Suzanne if you have any questions. Our first field trip will be to Sugarloaf Ridge State Park on Friday, September 24, where we will be going on the Planet Walk and studying native trees. Permission slips will be going home next Wednesday.
Best regards,
Mr. T
